Saturdays Are Lovely

Hello there!

Did I tell you that I love Saturdays?  Saturday is a day like no other.  Saturdays are all about sleeping in, La Madeleine's coffee, NPR on the radio, garage sales, and shopping.  Saturdays are my day to play, to design, to craft, to clean, to cook, to bake.  Saturdays are days without a schedule, a day to putter, a day to just soak in time.

In short, Saturdays are lovely.

I spent a good part of the day transferring my graphic design files from Corel Drawer into Adobe Illustrator.  But what I really had planned was this interesting craft project: embroidery on paper.

I saw this Embroidered Card on Martha Stewart's "Craft of the Day" page from May 6.

Embroidery on paper is a trend I've seen a lot of lately in the blogosphere. Since I like most things Martha and since I like embroidery I thought I'd try my hand at this.

You can download 6 different pdf versions from her website: 3 black/white versions that you can watercolor (like the photo above) or 3 colored versions.  The designs are quite lovely.

A trip to Joann's Fabric and Craft store was in order.

The card calls for gold embroidery thread which I think will look very elegant and pretty. I had gold embroidery thread in my shopping cart, until I spied this:
This has metallic yarn twisted into the regular yarn and I like the weight. Bonbons come in the most delicious colors and if this works out I may become a fan. You can also purchase it on Joann's website here.

I have a friend whose birthday is this month and this card will find its way to her.  (I know it says Happy Mother's Day but somehow I don't think she will mind)

I'll post a photo of the finished product.

Hope your Saturday is Lovely.
